What Is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on changing unhelpful or harmful thought patterns and behaviors. The core principle of CBT is that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, and by altering negative thought patterns, individuals can change their emotional responses and behaviors.
CBT is structured, time-limited, and goal-oriented, often involving practical strategies and exercises to address specific issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, and other mental health challenges. It is based on the concept that negative thoughts contribute to the development and maintenance of psychological distress, and by learning to challenge and modify these thoughts, individuals can improve their mental well-being.
CBT is widely used in various forms, including individual therapy, group therapy, and self-help approaches, and it has been shown to be effective for a wide range of mental health conditions.
